Review Summary: Say you drugs to no, can't J Juicy

I wish I had the financial means and massive amounts of free time to ingest anywhere near as many drugs as Juicy J. While he's always been a "crazy, high-ass nigga" during his tenure with Triple 6 Mafia, it has become even more readily apparent during his mixtape years. I, personally, think it's great he's getting it in. Juicy's pushin' frickin 40- he don't have time to fuck around.

Real talk though: if you haven't heard "Juicy J Can't" by now, you are listening to the wrong rap. It's pretty much the ultimate get hyped on your controlled substances song. The earworm chorus stating that WE say no to drugs but Juicy just can't sets up Blue Dream and Lean as the ultimate soundtrack to a weekend of binge drinking and railing lines of yay off hookers' stomach. Juicy also states on this track that "After the show we grab the groupie hoes/I'm smokin' out/No smoke for free/No IOUs/No, I don't do no vows," suggesting that you already have to be initiated to partake when he's around.

How does one become initiated? Simple. You gotta get in on the ground up with the lean, which should be 2 parts Sprite and 548532 parts prometh/codeine. "Take the blunt/Dip it in the lean/Then light it" Juicy spits on over an anthemic beat on "Get Higher," the second of 6 songs on this tape produced or co-produced by trap DJ superstar Lex Luger. Luger and Juicy show the same kind of synergy on Blue Dream and Lean previously exemplified on the Rubba Band Business tapes. Really one of the most unfortunate aspects of Blue Dream and Lean is that Luger doesn't produce more of it, but that can be debatable from listener to listener, as Luger didn't do "Juicy J Can't," which is obviously this tape's biggest draw.

"Geeked Up On Them Bars" shows Juicy offering his most messed up piece of advice on partying when he asks "Have you ever snorted Xanax?/Some trippy shit." Everyone who knows shit about Xanax for recreational use knows you don't snort it- it doesn't work that way. But therein lies an insight into Juicy's state of mind: He doesn't give a shit. He'll pop Xanax, snort Xanax, or probably even have a Xanax enema simply because he can.

Fans of the indomitable Blvcklvnd Rvidxr Klvn will be happy to know their poster boy, the ever quirky yet to-the-point Spaceghostpurrp makes an appearance on "Real Hustler's Don't Sleep" and "Deez Bitches Rollin'," the latter of which is anchored by a trippy-ass guitar line and Adderall. Other features on the tape range from heavyweights such as Tity Boi aka 2 Chainz, Wiz Khalifa, and A$AP Rocky to Worst Debut Sales Ever™ queen Kreayshawn. The features are pretty par for the course, providing the occasional break from Juicy even if you don't want a break from him.

Juicy J is pretty insane, even for a drug-fueled black guy. Blue Dream and Lean is definitely too long and suffers from some stupid hooks ("I ain't Rickey Smiley," "Beef like Rotel") but for the most part it accomplishes it's goal of being really good music for getting extremely fucked up to. Juicy J is set to release his third studio album, Stay Trippy, this summer, and response to this tape as well as recent singles bodes well for its success.

Don't know why but he's very popular all of a sudden at my school (in France). I've yet to listen to this in full but it's pretty great from what I've heard

No, I haven't. I just happened to be poking around Datpiff yesterday and it was the first one listed. I see Rubba Band Business II is a Luger collab though so that's intriguing.
