Review Summary: Every chugcore dunderhead's wet-dream.
Over the last few years, many well-known deathcore bands have only seemed to be improving and slowly gaining more and more respect in the metal community, and they even pulled themselves out of the hottopicore rut that Bring Me the Horizon helped to create. These bands include Whitechapel, Carnifex, Job For a Cowboy, All Shall Perish (just to name a few). Some maturity has swept the bands and the only real threat to deathcore's progression has been the djenty/chugcore/beatdown bands, like Emmure, but these bands have been very few and have kept to their own circle of snap-back-bearing, one-chord-chugging, invisible-ninja-fighting bros. The only other issue are the bands like Chelsea Grin who still cling to commercial success and hottopic, but these bands are slowly either becoming djent or the modern definition of metalcore.
But behold, the harbinger for the destruction of deathcore's progression has arrived; straight from the depths of the brocore community comes Traitors, to *** things up and keep giving deathcore a bad name. Why do I say this? Judging from how quickly they've become popular in the deathcore genre (even with those who think Emmure suck?), and by the positive reactions at their brand of slow chug-bile, it seems as though 3 to 4 minute long breakdowns for songs are going to become more used! What exactly have Traitors brought to the table that is new? Absolutely nothing! And that is the horror of it; they never strive for any real musicianship. Each song is around 3 to 4 minutes of breakdown cliches and simplified Oceano ripoffs, yet many deathcore fans are seeing Traitors as the Messiah of deathcore? I sure hope, and pray to a god I don't believe in, that it will not come to the hostile takeover of these douche-bags, Black Tongue, and Demolisher... though I cannot promise you anything. We can only hope that the deathchug generation will not come to pass, but it seems inevitable. Lately, anytime a grand deathcore album emerges, more *** like these bands emerge! I'm not even sure as to how I'll get past this paragraph to write an actual review, instead of a rant...but here we go...
All you really need to hear from this band is the single off of this release: "Dead Nerves". This song just sums up what they're all about and why it was ridiculous for them to even make a full release. At one point in time, I was laughing my ass off to this song because I never thought that this *** would even get anywhere... I was horribly wrong.
Because I'm such a gracious individual, why don't I just save you the trouble of even listening to this whore***!: *ba-dum* Chug, chug, chug-chug *crash, crash, crash, crash* Chug,chug, chug *bass drop* chug-chug "HERRRRE-LIES-A-BROOO-KEN-MAAAAN!" chug, chug, chug *bass drop* chug-chug "DEAD'N'BEA-TEN-FROM HIS OWWWN-HAAANNDSSS!".
The hilarity and repulsiveness of the repetitive drumming, generic lyrics from a hippopotamus, and obsessive one-chord-smashing guitars has to make you wonder, "what in the *** is wrong with most deathcore fans?". This single has had me stumped since I let my eyes graze over the comment section on youtube. What exactly is enjoyable about this 3-minute-and-36-seconds-long breakdown?
If you loved to hate Emmure for being repetitive in the past, then you will have a fun time ripping your hair out over Traitors. I used to loathe the music of Emmure, that is until I heard "Dead Nerves". Don't expect there to be a legitimate riff anywhere in Traitors' music, because you will not find a single legitimate riff anywhere. If you are a crazy bastard who actually likes the thought of 3 to 4 minute long breakdowns, then this is definitely the release for you...you crazy bastard...
