Review Summary: Technically twisting death...
I always love to give a listen to debut stuff, and Demented Heart's
Seeds of the Venomous (2010), isn't exception. Basically, the album is only about thirty six minutes long of music. It consists of nine tracks, one of them is cover version of Judas Priest (
Painkiller). For me, such duration is quite enough. However, Demented Heart has released solid full-length debut to offer.
What I got here is a well-played of technical death metal. They play fast with many complex riff patterns. The first three songs,
Error Suggestion,
Fill Full Fall, and
Seeds Of Venomous, are good case of examples. Through these tracks, soon we realize that Demented Heart would be a bit reminiscent of Necrophagist, Spawn of Possession, and Death. In my opinion, the best aspect of
Seeds of the Venomous would have to be the guitars. Avaness, so the stage name of their lead guitarist and growler, played a tightly-woven riffs and infixed many sweeping technique with neo-classical touch.
In general, the next songs follow similar formulas of the first three tracks. Of course, each song has different composition, and each of it is memorable enough in mind. Perhaps only
Painkiller, cover version of Judas Priest that slightly different to other tracks of the album. I myself would’ve preferred hearing a cover of Death or Necrophagist, but that’s just personal opinion. In growl part, Demented Heart surely has nothing to disgrace. In other word we could say, vocal part is well-accommodated to the genre, although they didn't bring any remarkably unique or superb growling to offer. The album also offers solid drumming play, despite sometimes they choose hyper-blasting approach. And bass, I have no complain yet, so far so good! One significant flaw we might have is that the album less in composition intensity. Well, it's not really a flaw is it when we can enjoy their well-played of music.
Anyway, this is solid debut release. A well-crafted technical death from start to finish. I only wish they'll find and build their own strong musical identity in order to stand out themselves in future!
