Einaudi's first solo piano work, Le Onde sees much of the expected minimalistic music that would later characterize his music. The gorgeous swirling arpeggios of the title track perfectly create images of waves, as one would expect. From Dietro l'incanto onwards, Le Onde really hits its stride, constantly throwing gorgeous melodies at the listener, including a surprising amount of ornamentation in Onde Corto. Ultimately, though Le Onde is not without its faults---an understated beginning section and a surprisingly loud and disruptive left hand on some tracks such as the title track---Le Onde is a fantastic release that would serve as an excellent precursor for Einaudi's later works.
