(don't forget to drop your mic when you are done)
Air moves through wind pipes
rhymes and flows are spit tight
Everybody holds on when the KRS
releases the ultimate eponymous;
record... during the second golden era for hip hop
which back then was casting shadows straight from the top
of the entertainment industry.
36 Chambers and the Infamous were bangers
The Chronic was still new and the Illmatic dropped too.
Not to be outdone this record by KRS One
proved he could be more than a no-name MC
while setting in stone his own legacy.
It was a unique album in a unique way
and lucky for the game, One had something to say
The goal was to defeat ignorance caused by many factors
the only thing KRS hated more than wack rappers
lyrics were created covering many topics on the spectrum
hoping the void between the listeners ears would make connections
by exploring material that wasn’t too popular at the time
The space between gangsta and conscious rap, KRS walked the line
with thoughts on materialism, theology, self expression and the metaphysical
KRS crossed boundaries that were generally impermissible
Tupac and Big’s time on this earth would have been much less brief
if they had only listened when One emphatically stated “squash that beef”
and in an era oft maligned for productional grime
these beats will keep your seats, bumpin just fine
Every few years KRS reappears
his new albums rarely hit on many ears
but I respect the man who has so many flows,
emotions and prose
The man turned hip hop into a religion (true story)
Shoots down fake emcees like clay pigeons
Its good to know and its safe to say
that his radical ideas are here to stay
Peace
