Review Summary: Thrash Smash Dash Crash Flash Bash Slash Mash Lash
Many thrash acts have arisen since the 80's; some good, some ****. Protector is like superman amongst men. The superior level of riff compositions thoughroughly decapitate petty mortals like Slayer, Anthrax, and Metallica.
With slick hair style, Protector has the potential to wow chicks, but unfortunately many don't even know about them, even though they sprung up during the same time as Metallica. Oh ****, that's what it is, their not mainstream, that's why you don't know about them. Well get on it because 3 seconds of a single Protector riff destroys all of Metallica's discography.
Protector is no joke, their in the game to win it; and have. With a solid discography, always pushing genre boundaries, "Golem" stands it's ground, rivaling thrash classics such as Rust in Peace, Pleasure to Kill, and Hamburger Lead Pinto's. A grade drums always blend well with the forward motion the riffs display. Adding a blend of death metal in their thrash formulas, consistently spawns new horizons for listeners. The right hand technique of vocalist/guitarist Oliver shine immensely on tracks such as "Operation Plaga Extrema", where the complexity of executed riffs never seem to hold back his vocal approach; as if Oliver couldn't pull both off at the same time.
The production sends "Golem" over the top. The high's and low's of all instruments always hits the mark of balance. The vocals are placed well in the mix, never overshining the drums or guitars. The dual vocal attack from drummer Marco add clout and variability to groovier riffs, creating a heightened experience on tracks such as "Omnipresent Aggression".
Solos rip face over and over and never come off as being corny. "Golem" is predominately thrash so solos are a must and only add to the pressing tempos of typical thrash formulas, but "Protector of Death" uses solos in an original fashion, when you hear the solo used as a hook to lead into another riff. This track has some of the best grooves in metal period and I could totally picture my granny doing her tuck and dive tango to appregiated thrash fist's.
