Tina Brooks was a tenor saxophonist born in Fayetteville, North Carolina. He moved to New York City with his family in 1944 and began playing alongside artists such as Sonny Thompson and Lionel Hampton. From 1958 to 1961 he recorded his four studio albums, of which True Blue (1960) was the only one released during his life. The rest were found shelved in Japan and released posthumously.
