Their arty and whimsical blend of music hall, pop, trad jazz, and psych ensures that they remain a major cult act to this day.The band are perhaps just as famous for their exploits outside music. A surreal children's television series entitled Do Not Adjust Your Set was what first got the group noticed by the wider public, and earned them a following amongst students (among whom the series was perhaps most popular). Do Not Adjust Your Set was also notable for featuring four young British comedians namd Terry Gilliam, Michael Palin, Eric Idle, and Terry Jones, all of whom would later become members of the legendary Monty Python. Neil Innes of the Bonzos later teamed up with the Pythons again for The Rutles, an affectionate Beatles parody that again bought The Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band to a wider audience. The Beatles, ironically, were huge fans of The Bonzos - Paul McCartney himself produced their biggest hit, I'm The Urban Spaceman. « hide |
