Screams of Winter formed in 2004 by Alex Damske and a few of his middle school friends. Over the next two years the band started tobecome more than a hobby. Alex's older brother Max joined and he was able to record the band, and coupled with the popularity of Myspaceat the time, the band was able to have music ready for people to hear. They eventually found Mike Scola to take over on vocals, whichsolidified the band with a 5 piece lineup. Their first LP was released in January 2006, and while it was far from listenable, it helped paved theway for the band going forward. Borrowing influence from metalcore bands like Killswitch Engage and God Forbid as well as Swedish metalacts like At The Gates and In Flames, the band had identified a musical direction to continue with. After a few member changes, they releasedan EP in 2007 and continued to play shows in the Chicago area. Mike quit the band in April of 2008, and they continued on as a 4 piece with Alex taking on vocals in addition to his guitar playing. The bandthen released their next EP in August 2008 and while the band played quite a few shows for the next 2 years, they failed to evolve musicallyand Alex quit the band in May of 2010 which ended the group. During the time the band was active, they managed play some 100 shows inthe Chicago area, a few notable shows include opening for Joey Belladonna's solo project after winning a local contest and playing mainstageat the annual Ribfest summer event in Naperville, IL after winning a local battle of the bands. Fast forward to summer 2017, Max and Mike decided to revisit some Screams of Winter songs with the EP Divine Chaos. With a new foundmaturity and refined performance and production skills, the songs finally sound like what the band always wanted them to sound like. Eventhough the sounds that influenced Screams of Winter are not the current trend in metal, the songs on Divine Chaos offer a unique glimpseinto one band's interpretation of 2000's metalcore. The band is hoping to play shows in the near future and work on re-recording theircatalog. « hide
