Rocky Hill

Rocky Hill (December 1, 1946 – April 10, 2009) was a Texas blues guitarist whose traditional blues guitar playing has been said to have influenced major Texas blues artists like Stevie Ray Vaughn. Before embarking on his solo career, Rocky and his brother Dusty were in a psychedelic blues-rock band called American Blues. Dusty later formed ZZ Top after American Blues split. Rocky then played in blues bands for John Lee Hooker, Lightnin' Hopkins (for whom he played bass), Freddie King, and Jimmy Reed. Rocky, a self-styled "anti-Clapton", was called "a monster on guitar" and "perhaps the wildest and scariest—both on stage and off—of all the white-boy Texas blues guitarists" and was noted in particular for his "metal-melting tone and whistling, artillery-shell harmonics".
