“Jersey raised but Philly-based band Rich People are cutting through the noise with thoughtful verisimilitude. There is plenty to say about the band based upon basic online sleuthing between the thoughtful (often painfully honest) blog posts to the music itself, but the best way to digest them is to let it sink in naturally. The band holds a constant sonic momentum throughout their discography that gives vocalist Robert Rich an opportunity to use his voice as an apparatus to surf over the waves of sound. [They leave the impression that they know exactly what they want from their output] What’s pleasantly surprising is how consistently different the songs feel within the context. The best part of unpacking their sound is that the music speaks with satiric authenticity. The lyrics are self aware and honest, especially when it hurts the most. On the one hand, you have vast sound profiles that make you feel like you’re being drowned by a wall of guitars in the best way possible. On the other hand you have the lyrics. The subject matter is all present, and very real. Ultimately it’s reality that scares most of us. Much like reality, the music carries different tones and emotions. Much like how some days are better or worse than others. The way Rich writes makes one thing abundantly clear: we are all only human. That might seem like an obvious sentiment but I find it’s the simplicities people seem to forget the most.” -Gabriel Pennell « hide |
