Rachid Taha, rightly known as the rebel of Rai, plays an exotic mix of traditional Algerian 'Rai' with an infusion of punk, techno and rock thrown in for good measure. He has performed with artists such as Patti Smith, Robert Plant and Brian Eno, with his song 'Barra Barra' gaining him a Western audience after it was featured in the 'Black Hawk Down' soundtrack. Taha, of French-Algerian decent also lends his voice to political matters, fervently supporting democracy, tolerance and altruism.
