Originally from Genoa (Italy), Paolo Zebolino currently resides in Lausanne (Switzerland).
As a teen, he played guitar in various garage bands while studying with his mentor, classical guitarist Eli Tagore. Gradually
he started developing an interest for folk and medieval music and approaching new instruments like the Greek bouzouki, the
Turkish saz, the oud and, primarily, the hurdy-gurdy. The latter became, alongside with guitar, Paolo’s main instrument.

As a teen, he played guitar in various garage bands while studying with his mentor, classical guitarist Eli Tagore. Gradually
he started developing an interest for folk and medieval music and approaching new instruments like the Greek bouzouki, the
Turkish saz, the oud and, primarily, the hurdy-gurdy. The latter became, alongside with guitar, Paolo’s main instrument.
Exploring those musical territories, he started touring extensively in Italy as well as obtaining international experience whit
his early music ensemble (Solilunio).
In 2001 he moved to Geneva, Switzerland, in order to study with the early music icon René Zosso. He also graduated History
at the University of Genoa and M.A.S. in Literature and Culture at the University of Geneva.
His interest in different types of modal music (medieval, traditional, Indian, contemporary, jazz…) had, as a consequence, the
development of projects as a Southern Italy traditional music group (Pizzicamore) and the early music trio Fin’Amor (with
soprano Julieta Gonzalez and percussionist Margaret Harmer).
Paolo also wrote music for theatre (Imbroglio, San Isidro F.C.), played as actor and musician for the University Theater in
Geneva and collaborated with actress Stefania Nuzzo for the creation of a Celtic/medieval show (Le Chevrefoil).
He liked to explore different types of improvised music: with Evelyne Moser (Peyronelle) focused mainly on early modality,
with singer and musical saw player Agnes Martin-Sollien for contemporary acoustic pieces and with the experimental electric
quartet Il Zabajone.
Paolo has composed soundtracks for short movies and also created visual animations for his improvised solo performances. « hide |
