Colin MacIntyre is one of the UK's most respected songwriters & performers who has also released under the moniker 'Mull Historical Society'. He has released 3 albums under the 'MHS' pseudonym: 'Loss' (2001), 'Us' (2003) & 'This Is Hope' (2004). Colin then decided to come out from behind the 'MHS' moniker upon releasing his 4th album 'The Water' in his own name in 2008. Produced by Lemon Jelly's Nick Franglen, The Guardian called it 'biting, pop perfection.' It was widely critically acclaimed. The singles 'Famous For Being Famous' & 'You're A Star' have become radio hits. The video for the latter was directed by 'Trainspotting' author Irvine Welsh; ‘Be My Saviour’ was in the ‘Stormbreaker’ movie. "Loss" continues to receive tremendous acclaim and "albums of the year" polls. In just a year MacIntyre went from supporting The Strokes on their debut UK tour to selling-out the 2,000 cap. Shepherds Bush Empire twice, and touring with REM & Elbow. "Us" hit the UK Album Chart at 19. MacIntyre has toured the U.K, Europe & U.S.A and has performed at all the main Festivals, as well as on stages as diverse as the Millennium Wheel to the Scottish Parliament, and has collaborated with political legend Tony Benn. A songwriting junkie, oblivious to passing trends, he has become more than just Mull's local hero, with his ‘society’ growing all the time. MacIntyre's album, Island (2009), was his most stripped-back to date, a stirring, acoustic departure. It was conceived in the US and recorded on the other side of the Atlantic on Mull in his old school, now an arts centre. It has been critically acclaimed and featured a guest spot from King Creosote. Launched with a live session with Dermot O'Leary on Radio 2, The Times said it was "packed with surreal maritime sagas and ranks alongside the best from the man behind MHS". The Island tour concluded at Glasgow’s Royal Concert Hall at Celtic Connections 2010. MacIntyre performed at SXSW 2010 in Austin and recently curated the Mary’s Meals Music charity concert, after visiting their project in Malawi. He is now working on a new album for Spring 2011 to be released on Xtra Mile Recordings, a follow-up to 'The Water', which was a fixture on Radio 2 & 6 Music. He also has an MHS/CM retrospective planned.
