Gorgoroth are black metal veterans from the early Norwegian scene. Infernus, the founder and driving force behind the band,remained the only permanent member since the band was formed. In 2007, band mates Gaahl (Vocalist) and King Ov Hell (Bass) attempted to copyright and trademark Gorgoroth's name, logo, and entity while Infernus was serving time in prison. Infernus was eventually deemed to be "Gorgoroth" for all intents and purposes by the Norwegian courts, and thereby could not be removed from the band. They are well known for their unsettling stage shows, one of which included threemock crucifixions of naked women, bags over their heads, with severed animal heads lining the stage on stakes... in the Pope's hometown of Krakow, Poland. Most of the members, past and present, have also been in and out of jail over the course of their careers, mostly for assault charges. Their early work is raw, definitive black metal, whereas the more recent albums have a cleaner production and more death metal influence. « hide |
