Gealdýr is a project by Dutch singer and songwriter Jonathan Barendsma, with as aim to bring Old Norse wisdom back to life through music. Gealdýr started in 2019 and has become an established name in the Nordic folk/Viking genre over the past few years, with releases like Ymir (with Danheim), Sól and Sær.
The name ‘Gealdýr’ is a combination of the Gaelic word ‘geal’ (white) and the Old Norse word ‘dýr’ (deer), together meaning ‘white deer’.
