Frozen Crown are an Italian power metal band formed in 2017 by guitarist, vocalist and songwriter Federico Mondelli. Originally conceived as a recording project, the group developed around Mondelli and singer Giada “Jade” Etro, whose planned guest appearance grew into a leading role on their debut. Mondelli wrote and recorded the guitar, bass and keyboard parts for their first two albums, while also directing the band’s visual presentation through artwork and music videos.
Their debut, The Fallen King, appeared through Scarlet Records in 2018, followed by Crowned in Frost in 2019. A substantial lineup change accompanied Winterbane in 2021, bringing in guitarist Fabiola “Sheena” Bellomo, bassist Francesco Zof and drummer Niso Tomasini. Their fourth album, Call of the North (2023), broadened their arrangements with acoustic ballads, choral passages and more elaborate orchestration, retaining the combination of power metal, speed metal and traditional heavy metal established by their earlier releases.
The addition of guitarist Alessia Lanzone expanded Frozen Crown into a six-piece with three guitarists. War Hearts, released on October 18, 2024, marked their move to Napalm Records and the first album to feature recording contributions from the entire lineup. Its title paid tribute to Children of Bodom, an acknowledged influence on Mondelli and Etro. Alongside their studio work, the band developed an international touring presence, performing in Europe and Japan and sharing stages with DragonForce, U.D.O. and Kamelot.
Alexandra Lioness replaced Bellomo in 2025. Their sixth album, The Legend of the Six Kings, followed on October 2, 2026, through Napalm Records. The record introduced a darker, more narrative approach, drawing inspiration from Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings while retaining melodic choruses and intertwined guitar parts. It also included a power metal interpretation of the Goo Goo Dolls song Iris.
Frozen Crown’s style combines power metal vocal melodies with guitar riffing influenced by Scandinavian melodic death metal. Etro’s clean lead vocals are complemented by Mondelli’s clean singing and growls. Their three-guitar configuration helps reproduce layered studio arrangements in concert, while their songwriting commonly begins with the chorus. Lyrical subjects range from personal growth and inner struggles to fantasy and stories drawn from film and games. « hide |
