Flames of Hell

Flames of Hell was one of the earlier Icelandic metal bands in the mid 80s. Originally created in Reykjavik in 1984 by the Nicolaisson (they have since shortened their patronymical surname to Nicolai) brothers Steinþór (guitars / vocals) and Sigurður (bass) they released one single album in 1987 before splitting up. The cover art for the album, entitled Fire And Steel was painted by the third Nicolai brother and released by his company Draconian Books and Publishing. He was also originally supposed to have become the band's vocalist and later on became a well-known painter The band probably split up because of the drug problems of their drummer Jóhann Richardsson who spent many years in rehabilitation clinics.
