Elbow is an alternative rock band which formed in Bury, Greater Manchester, England in 1990 while at sixth-formcollege.Theband consists of Guy Garvey (vocals, guitar), Mark Potter (guitar, vocals), Pete Turner (bass), Craig Potter(keyboards)andRichard Jupp (drums). The band then released two critically acclaimed EPâs on the independent Ugly Man Record label whichcaughttheattention of V2 Records.V2 released Elbowâs debut album: âAsleep In The Back.â The album was a surprisignly moderate success,gainingsubstantialcritical acclaim and, ultimately, a nomination for the Mercury Music Prize in 2001. The single âNewbornâreceivedattentionafter being banned by Radio 1 for the lyric, âIâll be the corpse in your bathtub.â Word of mouth then beganto workin Elbowâsfavor. Its 2003 album, âCast Of Thousands,â entered the UK Charts at #7 to critical acclaim. The leadsingle,âFallen Angel,âcharted at #19.Elbow released its third album in 2005: âLeaders Of The Free World.â Despite a continued lack of commercialnotice,âLeadersOf The Free Worldâ charted at #12, with its lead single, âForget Myselfâ achieving #22 in the charts. Thatautumn,Elbowheadlined the first of two sell-out tours. March 17, 2008, saw the release of Elbowâs fourth album, entitledâTheSeldom SeenKid.â Released through Fiction, it entered the UK album chart at #5, and went on to win the 2008MercuryMusic Award. âTheFix,â features guest vocals and lead guitar by Richard Hawley. April 2009 saw the release of TheSeldomSeen Kid Live atAbbey Road, recorded with The BBC Concert Orchestra and Chantage. This album, recorded in StudioOneof the world famousAbbey Road Studios on Saturday, January 17, 2008, is a complete run-through of the Mercurywinningalbum. It features theband, a 52-piece orchestra, and a 20-member choir.The bandâs fifth and most recent album 'Build a Rocket Boys!' was released on March 14, 2011. « hide |
