Death From Above 1979 (often shortened to Death From Above) is a Toronto-based indie/hard rock duo. Originally named just "Death From Above", the duo changed their name after a legal dispute with New York City dance-funk label Death From Above. Members are Jesse F. Keeler (bass, synthesizers) and Sebastien Grainger (vocals, drums). Forgoing a lead guitarist, they originally played loud, synth-infused dance-punk, garnering them much attention in the 2000s. The duo broke up in 2006, but then reunited in 2011 and have maintained a steady output ever since. Their sound has steadily morphed into more standard alternative rock since their reunion.
