Converge is a 4-piece American band, formed in February of 1990 in Salem, Massachusetts, United States. Playing a blend ofextreme metal and
hardcore punk, this pioneer outfit helped define a lot of the rudiments of the fast-burgeoning metalcoreand mathcore genres.

They first started by playing covers of hardcore, punk and heavy metal songs, being self-confessed “hardcore kids withleftover Slayer riffs”. The
band soon graduated to playing live performances in 1991 after recording some demos on a 4-trackrecorder.
In their latter years, Converge have enjoyed relatively high levels of popularity despite the esoteric feel of their music andthe substantial lack of
media attention they receive. The extreme nature of their music, particularly the atonal vocals andoften complicated finger-work of the guitar
riffs make it difficult for some to appreciate this brand of metal. Later recordshave gradually become more extensively produced largely due to
the maturation of their sound.
Napalm Death is a grindcore/death metal band from Birmingham, England. The band was formed in the village of Meriden nearBirmingham,
England in 1981 by Nicholas Bullen and Miles Ratledge.
Although other groups had previously played fast and aggressive music, Napalm Death is credited with defining the Grindcoregenre through its
fusion of punk and metal musical structures, aggressive playing, fast tempos, and deep guttural vocals. Thegroup coined the term ‘Grind’ to
describe the music they played in reference to the sound of American no wave group Swans.
There are no original members left in the band: indeed, the early history of the band is one of constant member rotation - bythe second side of
its debut album “Scum” in 1987, the band did not contain any original members. « hide |
