Concept of Time are a dedicated 4 piece from Glasgow in Scotland. Here they present us with their rich brand of progressive metal that is certain to open doors and create a loyal following. They have already created a stir in their native Scotland and that can only spread in all directions to reach all corners of the globe. Influences include Therion, Evergrey, Pagan's Mind, Epica as well as Muse, Silverchair and Pink Floyd. So far they have managed to enjoy playing opening slots for such names as Kamelot, Korpiklaani, Serenity, Blaze Bayley, Alestorm and Sabaton to name but a few. An impressive start to their career and considering they are all just out of their teen years then the future looks very bright. A performance at Bloodstock in 2008 has also given them a chance to show off their prowess. This five track EP has all the hallmarks of a becoming a classic, as it is very well written and composed. "Open your eyes" begins with a grand lush sound with parping keys, it is a short instrumental to introduce "A New State of Thought" when the guitars and keys break in and the tempo accelerates to another level. The powerful vocal chords of Tom Perrett kick in and the scene is set for an epic anthem that smacks of Opeth and Kamelot with doffs of the hat towards Dream Theater. "Nothing More than A Memory" sees the pace slow down a notch which gives a chance for keyboard player Scott McLean to let his hair down with some clever touches of the ivories and especially so when Toms effortless guitar playing accompanies to great effect. "Eternal Sleep" continues the high level of sound and highlights the tight rhythm section of Andy Marshall (Bass) and Phillip Morrison (Drums) to show that they have a rightful place in the band. This is a grand affair and just as you think things can't get any better than this the guys hit you with the finale of "Embrace the Lie (Apocalypse)" which thunders along at a blistering pace with its infectious keyboard glissades and powerful guitar chords. Tempo changes abound, again a Dream Theater similarity can be found here...with a touch of Threshold thrown in for good measure. All in all an impressive showcase of songs for these talented four young men. It simply leaves the listener begging for more.... So, there we have "Concept of Time" who can only go forward from this point on, watch out for them in your area, at the rate they are going they should be household names in the not to distant future! Progressive metal at its best.... « hide
