Oceansize existed for devotees of minimalism, maximalism, the uncompromising and the intriguingly unique. They wereconceived quietly in the minds of five young men strategically placed around the UK. Although unwilling to disclose their influences, Oceansize have a deep respect for the following: PinkFloyd,BlackSabbath,Can,Cardiacs,Jane's Addiction, (early) Verve, Swervedriver, The Beach Boys and Tortoise. 2002 was the year that things really started to happen for Oceansize with the band supporting The Cooper Temple ClauseTWICE on their UK tours and opening the BPI stage at the SXSW Music Festival in Austin, Texas to an incredibly enthusiastic audience of both fans and industry. But the biggest achievement of 2002 was signing arecording contract with Beggars Banquet Records. Throughout their decade-long career, Oceansize recorded four full length albums plus numerous EPs and a live boxset, building a small but dedicated fan base along the way. Debut Effloresce was critically acclaimed for its mix of progressive and post-rock elements, while follow-up Everyone Into Position attempted a more commercial route. Though this did land one of their songs on the OC, the band themselves expressed distaste in their second effort. Now under a different record label and with a new bassist, Oceansize set about writing their third album with the goal of not writing any singles. 2007 saw the release of Frames, displaying the band at their creative peak, and in 2010 came Self-Preserved While theBodiesFloatup, which cut down track lengths and exhibited a heavier overall sound. In early 2011, Oceansize announced through their Facebook page that they had split up, stating that"an explanation...isn't either forthcoming or indeed necessary." Members have gone on to join Amplifier and form BritishTheatre and HandsOut. « hide
