Liars started as a challenging dance punk band from New York. They have since been known to undergo genre shifts with practically every release, spanning from rowdy noise rock to sleek, experimental electronic music. In 2017, founding member Aaron Hemphill left the band, leaving only Angus Andrew to helm the project. Liars continues on as Andrew's solo project.
