Hawk Eyes are Paul Astick on guitar and vocals; Rob Stephens on guitar; Ryan Clark on bass and Matt Reid on drums. The band began in 2005 as a three piece. As their music developed Astick, who initially played drums, moved to guitar and Reid was brought into the fold after his previous band Whores Whores Whores had recently split.
Originally named ‘Chickenhawk’, early releases included a demo and split EP, both recorded with Ross Halden (Pigeon Detectives / Forward Russia) at Ghost Town studios in Leeds. This was followed in 2008 by a self-titled album (limited to 500 copies) on Sound D ...read more

The recording was made during sessions with Chris Fielding (Napalm Death) at Foel Studios in Wales and Jason Sanderson (The Plight / Rolo Tomassi) in Barnsley. It was also mixed and mastered by Sanderson. In 2009 the band worked again with Sanderson, recording the A.or Not? EP with him.
Later that year the band revisited Halden to record the track ‘Scorpieau’. The track was included on volume 3 of the Dance To The Radio split 4 x 12” series, where they shared the sleeve with Ebsen and the Witch, Olfar and Airship. The 4 x 12” series has also hosted the bands Pulled Apart By Horses, Bear In Heaven and Holy State.
Brew (Records)In 2009 Brew released ‘A. Or Not?’, and the EP received international acclaim. Danny North helped the band make a video for the lead track, ‘I hate this, do you like it?, which was the NME photographers directorial debut. The zombie themed video received over 40,000 views on Youtube within a few weeks of its release. « hide |
