Discharge

In the early years of UK punk bands such as the Clash and the Sex Pistols, five young lads decided to start one of their own. Formed in 1977, Discharges original line up consisted of Terry 'Tez' Roberts on Vocals, Tony 'Bones' Roberts on Guitar, Roy 'Rainy' Wainwright on guitar, Nigel Bamford on bass and Akko on drums. Nigel Bamford left the band shortly after forming and 'Rainy' moved over to bass. They had a similar sound to the Sex Pistols and had only recorded a demo before changing in 1979. The line up became Kelvin 'Cal' Morris on vocals, Bones on guitar, Rainy on bass and Tez on drums, which, to this day, fans consider the true, 'classic' line up.Screaming vocals, overly distorted-grinding guitars, and an anti-melodic sound brought many punks and metal heads together. Their songs were mainly focused on Anarchy, Pacisfism, peace, autonomy, the horrible effects of nuclear weapons, rascism, and the twsited ideal of capitalism. In many songs they would just try to get the message out by repeating the same lyric. Their album covers depicted the horrible effects of war, using both political and social themes.Pioneering the D-beat, a new subgenre in punk(mostly used by crust bands) made Discharge one of most influential punk bands. Many bands even went to messures as imitating there style completly, from art work to sound, to using 'DIS' before there name. (such bands as Discard, Disarm, Dissucks, Distraught and more) D-Beat is also a favored sound of Japanese, scandanvian, and Brazilian hardcore and the punk scene in general. However, threw out the years Discharge went threw many changes. In 1980 they signed with Clay Records releasing 'Realities of War' and had a change in the line up. Tezz (drums) left and was replaced by Dave 'Bambi' Ellesmere (formerly of The Insane) before "Why". In 1982, the band released "Hear nothing, See Nothing, Say Nothing," (great album by the way)Follwed by the Never Again EP with yet another line up change. Gary Maloney of The Varukers was put on drums and Bones departed before "Warning..." The sound was changing from punk to a more metal sound. Many people saw the transition. The band saw another change in the line up in 1985 with the release of "Ignorance". The band saw many more changes with it's transition into a more metallic sound. In 2002 the original line up was reunited for the release of "Discharge".DiscographyEP's* Realities of War (April, 1980)* Fight Back ( July, 1980)* Decontrol (December, 1980)* Never Again (October, 1983)7"s* State Violence, State Control (October, 1982)* The Price Of Silence (December 1983)* The More I See (July, 1984)* Ignorance (July, 1985)12"s* Warning: Her Majesty's Government can seriously damage your Health (October, 1983)* Why (May, 1981)LP's* Hear Nothing, See Nothing, Say Nothing (May, 1982)* Grave New World (July, 1986)CD's* Massacre Divine (1991)* Shootin' Up The World (1993)* Discharge (2002)* Society's Victims Discography (2004)* Why (1982)Demos* 1977 demoRecomended Songs:DecontrolState controllProtest and SurviveFree Speach for the DumbNever AgainTomarrow Belongs to UsBands Similar to Discharge:Disfear,Disclose,Discard,Disarm,Dissucks,DistraughtKatastrofailu,AvskumBastardRatos de Por㯦lt;br />SkitsystemA list of D-Beat bands « hide
