Andreas Johnson was born in Bjärred, Sweden on March 22, 1970. His parents were professional jazz musicians, and through touring with them he grew accustomed to a life of late-night gigs and constant travel. His first band, Planet Waves, played mostly soft alt. rock and released only one album before breaking up, the woefully misnomered Brutal Awakenings.

His sophomore effort would prove to be a worthy gamble, as Liebling, bolstered by the strength of international smash hit "Glorious", propelled him to the Top 10 in Italy and the UK and showed well in several other countries. Having satisfied his label, he would go on to produce a long string of lesser pop rock hits in Europe and would become a regular participant in Melodifestivalen, the Swedish song selection contest for the Eurovision Song Contest, regularly qualifying for the final round.
