Nick Takenobu Ogawa grew up in Vermont. He started taking Cello lessons at 6 years old and studied classicaly until 18. Becoming bored with classical he then branched out and began playing bluegrass, blues, and other non-traditional music. At the age of 20 he spent a year with his father in Kyoto Japan during which time he focused on improving himself as a cellist, and a singer.
