After the departure of Peter Gabriel from Genesis in 1975, Hackett issued his first solo album, Voyage of the Acolyte, in the wake of the band's disarray. However, Hackett's time in Genesis was to come to an end soon. After the tour for the album Wind and Wuthering in 1977, he decided to leave the band; perhaps seeking more creative freedoms in creating music. Since that time, Hackett has enjoyed a long and illustrious solo career. His genre-crossing work has won critical praise from musicians of all types from around the world.
