Solace (CAN)

“Bottom line is I’ve always written music that I’m stoked on, not what everyone else wants to hear. This project will be no different,” says Karl Schubach of Misery Signals fame. The Canadian road-warrior has been hard at work on his progressive and melodic metalcore solo side project Solace since 2008 and is anticipating on releasing a full-length record in the near future. “When Misery Signals is off tour, I’m in my home studio every day recording new versions and demos of these songs. It’s been consuming my life as of late,” explains Schubach. “All these songs I’ve written are a collaboration of riffs that just simply wouldn’t fit into the world of Misery Signals.” Schubach proves to be a versatile musician mastering more than the strong guttural vocals he’s known for that has taken him around the world and back. Equipped with an 8-string Ibanez RG2228 Schubach lays down ultra low and heavy driving chords layered with dynamic and graceful melodies, while programming drums through Toontrack software's Superior Drummer 2.0; delivering a wall of voluptuous instrumentation. Also utilizing his own powerful vocals he voices passionate lyrics on life experiences that he hopes will "hit close to home" with many of his potential listeners. “Part of the reason this album is taking so long to come out is the sheer fact that I’m my own worst critic,” admits Schubach. Through thick and thin of writing the Solace record he assures that the objective of, “being able to create, play and, most importantly, share music that’s 100% my own,” remains unwavering. -Suzie Lee, 2010 « hide
