SAOLA was formed in August of 2014 in Portland, OR. The four members of the band met while students at the School of Rock. They
realizedthatthey worked well together and decided to start their own project and SAOLA was born. They immediately started writing music and
liningupgigs. In February of 2015 they released a four song demo and followed that up with a live recording – “SAOLA’s Big Nighttime Bash For
NoOne”,recorded at The Ash Street Saloon in Portland. They have continued to play live shows and write original music. Their first full-
lengthalbum –“Black Canvas” – was released on April 30, 2016. Their musical influences include bands such as YOB, The Melvins, Sleep,
Neurosis,andMonolord, as well as many non-metal bands such as Pink Floyd and The Mars Volta.
