Formed in Boston, the band gained early success after a move to Los Angeles, writing the song “Scotty Doesn’t Know” for the
movie Eurotrip. Founding members Chris Baird and Nick Cloutman appeared in the movie alongside Matt Damon, playing their
lead singer.
Adding guitarist Travis Lee, LUSTRA completed work for their 2006 debut Left for Dead and released the disc with absolutely no
promotion or publicity. Within days of the release, digital sales of "Scotty Doesn't Know" earned the band a 7 week stay on
Billboard's Hot 100 and Pop 100 charts, marking LUSTRA as one of the first independent acts ever to do so.
Next, LUSTRA, joined by new drummer Manny Baldanza, took two years to finish their follow-up release, What You Need & What
You Get, produced by John Paterno (Eels, The Warlocks, The Thrills). The band has also embarked on several successful rounds
of touring, including jaunts through South Africa and the UK.
So far, the success of this rags-to-riches act has been astounding. Digital distribution of LUSTRA's Left for Dead has resulted in
more than 185,000 downloads sold to date. The band has received 3,000,000 profile views as well as 72,000 active fans on
their MySpace page. On the road, LUSTRA has been fortunate enough to share stages with the likes of Queens of the Stone Age,
The Brian Jonestown Massacre, and Primus. « hide |
