Some may call him a Disco Diva and some call him the Godfather of NZ house, most call him Greg and for the last fifteen years Greg has been working as a DJ; for the last five years he has made his living working purely in the arena of dance music. The past two years have seen the widespread explosion of interest and acceptance of dance music in New Zealand, spewing forth into the guitar-fuelled socials as the traditional rock festivals. Greg has played at the Big Day Out 2000, and in 2001 was personally invited by the events chief Ken West to tag along for the five date Australian leg. Touring alongside such greats as Carl Cox, Roni Size and ex-underworlder Darren Emerson, and playing the early midday Boiler Room slots, Greg says he realises he 'was a nobody in Australia.' The most casual observer will have witnessed the sudden emergence of great NZ dance music producers. And Greg is right up there among them. To get there he works pretty hard, obviously. Playing up to six gigs a weekend, working full-time as manager of Auckland's High Street record store BPM, and hosting a weekly show of the same name on 95bFM, Greg admits it's hard to find time to make his own music. Still, he realises that ya just can't be a DJ forever. Yet Greg is still widely considered to be one of the best DJs on the scene. Party-goers the nation over have come to expect sets which are consistently of the highest quality, with music ranging from intense, pounding percussion to phat 'n' funky as fuck. Whatever the night requires, Greg can be relied on to deliver. « hide
