Grazhdanskaya Oborona were formed in 1982 by Egor Letov and Kuzya Waugh under the name Posev. They were caught in 1985by the KGB - Letov was sent to a mental institution and Waugh was sent to the army despite a heart problem. In 1986, Letovreformed Posev and recorded four new albums, all by himself. In 1987, he, Waugh and a couple of other guys played at the firstNovosibirsk Rock Festival, playing 6 songs under the name Adolf Hitler and four songs as Grazhdanskaya Oborona (the final songwas cut off by the KGB). In 1990, GrOb split up. Letov began to pursue different musical directions.
In 1993, GrOb reformed. They released two comeback albums on the same day in 1997, then toured the US in 2005.
