FlyKKiller

Chances are you haven’t heard of FlyKKiller yet, but if the press-monkeys are doing their jobs correctly then it’s only a matter of time. They’re the latest underground hype-sensation to emerge from the annals of London (via Poland) but surprisingly they’re no newcomers to the scene, not by a long shot in fact. Producer Stephen Hilton is in fact the musical partner of none other than David Holmes (who pops up here for a rather tasty remix) in the Free Association, so having cut his teeth on Hollywood film soundtracks here we find him teaming up with Polish chanteuse Pati Yang. With this self titled debut record the two manage to lay down their manifesto - tight electronically produced beats, smoky, sultry vocals and influences from hip hop to music hall and it is a resounding success. Comparisons will no doubt be made to the unsurpassed Various Production but to me the tracks sound like they could have slipped from any one of Leila Arab’s wonderfully eclectic albums, albeit with a more hip hop slant. With a pop leaning which should secure plenty of radio play this is the kind of British music the world needs more of; dangerous and defiantly experimental while retaining a listenable quality it’s impossible to fake. Finishing on a killer rework of the title track from David Holmes this should rouse the flagging interests of music fans everywhere… Source: http://www.last.fm/music/Flykiller « hide
