Ethel Cain is the current moniker/alter ego and audiovisual project of Floridian singer/songwriter Hayden Anhedönia (born 1998), who previously worked under the name White Silas. Referred to by Anhedönia as her “evil twin,” Ethel Cain is a character through which Anhedönia processes aspects of her experiences as a trans woman raised in a Southern Baptist household and, more broadly, the conflicts and contradictions inherent to Americana.
