Ensemble Economique is a guise of Brian Pyle (yep, this is a solo project - I suppose that’s just about as economical an ensemble as you could possibly get), whose name you may recognise from the lineup of Starving Weirdos and RV Paintings. The eight pieces on the album “At the Foot of Nameless Roads” range from extended tonal drift-scapes to brief exercises in dissonance, each approaching the field of drone from a different angle. Clearly Pyle is no part-timer and his varied, often very challenging music takes in a broad range of influences.
