Beginning in late November of 2015, the pieces of Dishwater Blonde seemed to fall together perfectly. Dexter, former drummer of multiple bands in the Cedar Valley area, met Alex Wendling at a show of one of Dexter's other local projects, Kitsch. They talked about starting a new band, and in a separate meeting to further discuss what the new project would entail, Stock and Fuller agreed to join in and the sound came to fruition almost immediately. Just a few short days after the lineup was finalized, the group recorded and released their first single titled “Other
Half”, featuring the easygoing beach guitar, active, bluesy bass riffs, and smooth trumpet sound that would later become the staple of the band. Yet the piece that ties it all together would have to be Dexter's vocal talent and subsequent lyrical content. While each member attributes to the sound equally and in their own way, Dexter's lyrics perfectly encapsulate the personality of the group as a quirky, half-joking half-serious retelling of life through his eyes, whether it be lost love, a trip to Taco John's, or Wendling's (alleged) loss of virginity.
