Bethlehem are a seminal Dark Metal band which formed in Grevenbroich, Germany, in 1991. Their style of music is named after their debut album, 'Dark Metal', which mixed Black Metal with Death/Doom elements. Bethlehem was banned from performing in several major cities in Germany and almost faced censorship after a young boy bought several of their first demo and made a 'satanic altar', turning aggressive and vicious apparently because of the music.After their third full-length, Sardonischer Untergang Im Zeichen Irreligiöser Darbietung, the band took a more mainstream approach into Experimental Metal and Rock. The current vocalist of Bethlehem is Niklas Kvarforth, of Shining.
