Bardot were the winners of Australia's first version of 'Popstars', a show similar to Pop Idol. The five girls from around Australia were immensely popular following the show's finale when the final line-up of the group was announced. Their first single 'Poison' - released the Monday morning following the Sunday-night Popstars finale - went straight to #1 and was one of the biggest hits of 2000. The album went 2x platinum but they had reached their peak just weeks after the show ended. A few hit singles and a second album followed, none of which reached the heights of their debut single or album. Following declining popularity and band members wanting to pursue solo careers, Bardot broke up in 2002. Of the five original members, Sophie Monk has gone on to the greatest heights, embarking on a moderately successful solo career before leaving Australia for Hollywood, where she has landed several roles and her stocks continue to rise. The other four members have effectively left the public arena, as their singing careers have failed to make an impact on the Australian market. « hide |
