Azrael is a black metal band from Minnesota, US. During 1999 - 2001, the band released three self-produced and self-released demos. Their first label release was the Obdurate EP in 2002 under the label Desastrious Records. Since then the band has released 3 full-length albums and a compilation album titled Obdurate / Unto Death, that includes both the Obdurate EP and the band's Unto Death demo.
Azrael started out as a traditional black metal band, but unique soundscapes and atmospheres gradually became more present with every new release. The band now describe themselves as "experimental, atmospheric, dark/black metal".
