Avant Garde was an underground American progressive/power metal band formed in 1985. Initially based in Storrs, Connecticut, they would relocate to Los Angeles, California in 1989 and change their name to Zoom before disbanding the following year. Though the band only ever released three demo cassettes in fairly low numbers, it is notable for being the first band of a certain Rivers Cuomo (who in 1992 would found Weezer), here credited as Peter Kitts playing lead guitar.
