Arafel started to play black metal, influenced by Slavonic (Russian, Ukranian) folk music. In April 1999 Arafel recorded their first four demo songs at Delphi studio in Tel Aviv. The demo was titled "Skazki Starogo Lesa" ("Tales of Ancient Forest") and 200 copies were released in MC format in Israel . In Europe the demo was released by Latvian label Beverina. There were released about 500 copies of this demo and all of them sold out in a short time. The same year, second guitarist Felius joined the band. Soon after, Oboroten left. He was replaced by Mihail (guitars). The departing of Oboroten caused Candlelight to take over vocal duties.
During 2000-2002 the band played many local gigs and festivals. Finally, after years of hard work, their first full-length album "The Way of Defender" was recorded during September 2002 in Poland. The album is about the Russian hero Alexander Nevsky, who was a Grand Duke in Russia during the 13th century. Arafel also shot a video for their song "The Ice", which is featured on "The Way of Defender". The album has so far sold approximately 2000 copies. "The Way of Defender" received positive feedback all over the world : 15 of 15 points by Legacy Magazine ( Germany ), 9 of 10 points by Multum in Parvo ( Poland ), 10 of 10 points by Metal Message (www.Metalmessage.de) etc. In 2003, Candlelight and Mihail left the band. They were replaced by Divertigo (keys) and Daniel Varfolomeyev (guitars).
In October 2004 a new full-length album, titled "The second strike: Through the flame of the ages", was recorded in Studio X (Olsztyn, Poland) with Szymon Czech. The vocals on it were recorded by session vocalist Miron from known Russian band Tvangeste.
In the begining of 2006, Arafel recruited new members for live performances. The current line-up is:
Felius - guitar
Daniel Varfolomeyev - guitar
Leshii - drums
Ilia - vocals
Divertigo - keys
Max - bass
After two years of silence, in February 2006, Arafel finally returned onstage in a concert with its new lineup. « hide |
