The Alban Berg Quartett was a Viennese ensemble formed in 1970. They had a wide repertoire, covering works from the Classical, Romantic
and Modern periods as well as the Second Viennese School. Their live recording of Beethoven's Late String Quartets sold over a million copies
and is widely considered to be a classic. In the wake of violist Thomas Kakuska's passing, the quartet decided to retire in 2008.
