Aficionado began playing together in 2004. We set out to do something different. Almost 5 years later, we're still here, stilldoing
somethingdifferent.
With roots in punk and indie rock, initially the band's vision was a little more aggressive and straight forward. However, during the first
coupleyears, mostmembers got pretty heavy into 70's era progressive rock, drawing a great deal ofinfluence from bands such as Yes, Kansas,
andKing Crimson; whodemonstrated that instrumentation and song structure canbe out-of-the-ordinary, and songs can be musically complex,
butthe music can still listenableand enjoyable. With theseinfluences in mind, the band headed in a more progressive and experimental
direction.People tend to like when you cangivesomething a label, so i guess you could call it "progressive-indie".
Without taking away from the intensity of the music, Aficionado began incorporating unconventional instrumentation such asflutes, horns,
&mandolininto the songs. These instruments were added to compliment the already epic, over-the-top natureof the band's sound. Also
backingup their big sound ,is a theatrical and energetic live performance, something the band hasprided itself on from the very beginning.
