It is common for many people to say this but searching through my 400 odd songs on my ipod nano I haven’t found a true blue Aussie album that these days is “Hardcore”. Don’t get me wrong there are PLENTY of Aussie albums out there that are amazing.
Nothing To Lose is a 25 minute in your face explosion of brutality that rocks you from start to finish. Depicting what Aussie hardcore could really be set at.
Aussie hardcore is growing and developing and Carpathian have hit the nail on the head with an amazing album incorporating the “Ancient”, old and new sounds of Carpathian.
Starting off with the song “The End Of The 1980’s” that sends shivers up your spine in the beginning. With that crushing guitar and the storing presence of a band that follows. Generated on a somewhat new Carpathian sound and feel that incorporates that some old sounds and feels. Throughout the album the lyrics are short in length but amazingly powerful and a well depicted stroke of genius.
“Drop It Like It’s Hot” is a very strong song that represents how the boys feel about those who are somewhat ignorant to the new following of the hardcore scene.
“Where’s the unity, when new faces aren’t welcome in this family.” Enough said
Another amazing mosh song, one you would love to jump in the pit to. This is where Carpathian really show the new colours of their sound. But as always this sound isn’t far from the original.
“Who The *** Taught You Snaps?” A personal favourite with its very new sound and great lyrics this song gives Carpathian its new stand in hardcore music today.
“So tell me how does it feel, to *** yourself up?” The most memorable line I have heard for quiet some time. Of course Marty’s Lyrical genius shows its full worth within this song.
Cutting straight into “Six Months.” This song among sounding somewhat similar to other Carpathian songs it really sets a great tone to the coming middle of the album. Just a great all balls to the wall, kick you mother in the face sort of song. Love you mum.
The title of the album “Nothing To Lose.” The noticeable borrowing shows. “Kiss The Rings” Shows so much in the beginning of this song. With the trem part that splits the phrases sounding very similar to kiss the rings. Although this doesn’t down play on the amazing sound of the song, and the lyrics are amazing “I’ll ***ing Stand by You.”
“Love Song” is aptly named. Cause its anything but that. Although this is the killer song of the album. My defiant favourite on the album. Its pungent remanence of lyrics depicts this great battle of love and how it was lost. A strong message is portrayed throughout it. And its bluntness is incredible. Just a few examples.
“I wish I never loved you”
“I will never die from a broken heart”
“Well *** that, you turned your back on me, so *** you, Im moving on.”
And the one line that will stick with everyone as it is so true. “What doesn’t kill you only makes your stronger.”
A ***ing top example of a great hardcore song, 5 out of 5 for it.
Heres a song that encompasses everything Carpathian. A strong 2-step that Carpathian is so well known for, well developed and meaningful lyrics. And a beautiful breakdown to drill the song into those who listen. “Rules of Attraction” is just Carpathian to a T.
Mosh till ya ***ing drop is all I can say about “Explosions.” This is the epitome of Aussie hardcore, this song is amazing and all I feel like doing is kicking in the walls around me.
The breakdown at 1:13 is as brutal as they come; my word of warning is watching my foot in your face in the pit to this breakdown. This breakdown is made for stomping the poor kid next to you to death.
I don’t need to say anymore all this song is for is to mosh like crazy. Enjoy
“Suckerpunch” is a great lyrical comeback song and its sheer brutality pays homage to its nature. So enjoy this one.
What a way to end the brutality and moshablity of such an album. This tops the album off. Using the lyrical genius and the ear corroding sound this song incorporates the new, the old and the ancient.
The lyrics to this song are the foundation from a writing earlier in the booklet, touching on someone that they know. The fade out concludes the monumental hardcore album.
In conclusion Carpathian have completed a true aussie hardcore album and put their best foot forward. A truly brutal, moshable, lovable and damn hot album.
