I never heard of Brilliant At Breakfast before. Listening to
Almost Verbose is my first experience tasting their catchy and melodious tune. With only four tracks and about 12 minutes of music, this EP is a great introduction for their next full-length album release.
Opening track "Splashdown" begins with wave sound splashing, seagull chattering, and yes you will feel yourself as if in a quiet tropical beach - with a cold beer in hand, sitting and watching your friend learning to surf the wave. After that, the song hits you with a smooth female vocal and breezy pop instrumental play. Then, follow-on track "Strawberry V" is typical easy listening pop composed in a simple structure - this is my most favorite one among another three tracks. Um, whatever! And then track "Nobody Ever Died of a Broken Heart", according to me; it is a bit similar to track "Strawberry V", both in musical pattern and vocals groove. But, this third track has a more melodic acoustic guitar portion in its first minute play. Then the last one, "If Monday’d Never Come", is the shortest track among others. Even only with two minutes of music, they delivered a cheerful pop, and of course the vocals are still sweet and strongly fitted to the music.
Overall,
Almost Verbose is almost great stuff to my opinion. The band is capable enough to entertain listeners, even in a simple music execution. They're lucky; in fact, their adorable lead vocalist will always be a special feature to their upcoming releases.
