Haydn's final set of string quartets reflect the most mature form of his work - if not his most exciting works melodically, they showcase his trademark balance of the instruments as well as anything he did. Highlights are the second, third and sixth entries - the second movement of the third ("Emperor") quartet is seen as quintessential Haydn voice-leading, justifiably so.
