Review Summary: A good album with a very neat and clean feel to it. It has a soothing tone to it. Even in the most intense parts, it still have a nice smooth, almost reassuring feel to it. A job well done.

First let me just say this, I'm relatively new to Under The Flood, (A Different Light being the first album I've heard,) so this review will be more about "A Different Light" than Under The Floods transformation as a band or the differences in their albums. That being said, with what I've heard of the albums "A Different Light" seems to be a little less edgy and rough, (in terms of music, not lyrical content,) Than "The Witness" and "Alive In The Fire".

The albums opener and first single "Fly" sets what is more or less the template for the whole album, a nice opening riff than a simple one or two chord verse, where it lets the singing to the talking, or singing I should say. The guitar comes back strong during the chorus accompanied by just as strong vocals. However they change enough throughout that it never leaves you bored, but at the same time they don't change to much so you never feel lost.

Dave Nadolski Lyrics fit the music brilliantly, for an example in the song "Different Light", "And tell me a story, And tell me where it all went wrong, Millions of perfect little pieces, But you're barely holding on". Or "I’m getting tired of all these days / Were the sun just slips away and fades, / Please take me away, I wonder why the clouds are made", from "When It's Over".

"A Different Light" was not just a good album, but well timed, as it won back some of the fans who had lost faith after "Alive In The Fire".

Yea dude forgot to say welcome on your first one! Don't worry if you plan on writing more reviews you'll discover the right way to do it. Soundoffs would work great with these. And also one review per day man cause it knocks other people's work off the front page. Just little tips, but listen to Brostep cause he goes hard with the feed back haha

Yeah just a warning I go really hard haha. Just don't take anything too personally - I want to see you improve as a writer and everything I say is for your benefit. Only if you want it though, you decide if you want me to give you some

All right, here goes. Be careful, I'll go hard, but all of this is so you can improve.

In general: you sound as though you don't really have all that much to say. Short reviews are fine, but only if you say all that you feel is relevant. Virtually all I can glean from what the album is (from your review) is that it's "less edgy and rough" than previous works, the album is mostly verse-chorus format with some sweet riffs, and the lyrics fit the album. There's really not all that much description here, and you really need some more to flesh out the review. For example: go into detail about "less edgy and rough" - that's kind of vague. Expand on your second paragraph - that seems to be where most of your material is. (Read some staff/contributor reviews to get an idea of how exactly to expand on an album's sound. Hint: use fancy adjectives that are relevant!) Talk more about the lyrics - you say "They fit the album" and then spend the rest of the paragraph quoting lyrics. I want to hear from you, man, not the band!

Also, as a minor but still important criticism: there are a few grammar errors here. Do a read-through or two before you publish so you're sure the kinks are gone. For example:

Dave Nadolski Lyrics

The albums opener

they don't change to much

Flesh out your ideas more and fix your grammar, and you're on the path to writing good reviews. I want to see you improve, and I think you can given enough hard work (spoiler alert: it can take hours to write a good review. For me, I usually spend at least an hour to an hour and a half writing each review). Keep on writing, and I hope to see you around these parts some more!
