It is difficult to describe how incredibly great this album is. Jamal never forgets the melodies, but he also improvises; meanwhile, his band has addictively hyperactive bass and tight crisp drumming driving everything. It hits a sweet spot you never knew you had, but once there, this becomes a regular play. There's a few others like it in Jamal's catalog. His earlier stuff is similar but acoustic. Here, he embraces electric piano and electric bass. Same principles at work, though.
